We stand with NAACP branches across the nation as they struggle to hold police accountable in their communities.

It is notable that although some law enforcement agencies have spoken out against George Floyd’s murder, the Snohomish County Sheriff’s Department has yet to make a statement – which reflects its troubled relationship with the African American community.

​Consider these incidents:​

• Recently a Sheriff’s deputy violently threw a Black nurse practitioner to the ground and jailed her for jaywalking. Sheriff Fortney responded “while this may seem like a low level infraction, there is a safety and education component as well”.  

• Snohomish County is becoming a hotbed of white supremacist groups, like the Proud Boys. We recently witnessed white men, with assault rifles, roaming around Snohomish city, drinking and displaying Confederate flags. Where was the Sheriff’s response to this incendiary situation?”
